Downloading online - how paranoid are you?

Part of my day job is writing about the IT industry, and I was interested to see this story cross my desk this weekend. Basically, security experts have uncovered yet another hoax that offers parents the opportunity to download the latest big movies for 'free' just by clicking on a link, or filling in a survey. There have been a rash of similar emails promising everything from new…See More

Six of the Best - Blogging Round Up Week 3

One of my favourite bloggers of recent years, Katie Lee, has been interviewed this week on Nixd Minx. I urge you to check it out and spend some time exploring Dork Adore, a brilliant site about technology, written from a female perspective. If you've ever had iPhone envy, check out this post from Amy at And One More Means 4, who…See More

Six of the Best - Blogging Round Up Week 2

It's been a busy week for parent bloggers, with some great advice from techical whizzes and business gurus. First off the blocks is Business Plus Baby, where you can download a great e-book for free, outlining what you need to have in place to start and run your own business, including some great computing tips. The site also provides some tips on marketing in this post, which asks…See More

Six of the Best - Blogging Round Up

It’s been a busy week in the blogging community, with lots of amazing posts – here are some of our favourites that you might have missed. Of course, the big story this week was CyberMummy, the UK’s first ever conference for parent bloggers, which took place in London last weekend. If you weren’t able to make it, then check out this post from Susanna Scott, mastermind behind the event, and the included links…See More

My computer scares me...

I recently bought a new PC. This involves change – and I’m not good at change at the best of times. But perhaps the most sinister change is that my computer now appears to be trying to push me into a constant state of terror. I turn on my computer and something pops up to tell me I must immediately update my protection. Okay. But once that’s done, I still have an icon in the corner of the screen which (if I hover over it) says “Important updates are available”. What, more of them? How many do I…See More

Alex Walsh commented on Sally Whittle's blog post What can you do about online bullying?
"I think part of the problem is there is a separate language involved in this: online bullying is full of trolling, flame wars, sock puppets and so on. By giving it its own lingo, it seems somehow less like traditional bullying."

What can you do about online bullying?

I’ve been blogging now for more than six years and during that time, I think I’ve seen examples of just about every kind of online behaviour.Unfortunately, this means I’ve seen my share of bullying, too. I know that bullying can happen to anyone, of any age – and I’m already thinking about how to educate and protect my daughter in case it happens to her.Bullying isn’t just someone disagreeing with you, or not liking you – that’s just part and parcel of life. Bullying is a sustained personal…See More

"I guess I've been lucky with shopping so far - I tend to stick to amazon for most things and ebay seems to get used for 99p phone accessories. It's well worth being aware of fake designer goods scams, like with UGG boots, and make sure…"
